Beginners Guide to Google AdWords for a Startup Business

August 13, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

Beginners Guide to Google AdWords for a Startup Business

A startup company should opt for online marketing windows. Digital marketing can be a serious source of growth for your startup. Good customer acquisition ability can help grow your startup business. Google AdWords is a great customer acquisition tool for online marketing platforms. Add AdWords today to your digital marketing and give your startup business the exposure it deserves.

How AdWords can help your business-

  • It starts generating traffic right away
  • You can easily track your conversion rate
  • Easy to track conversion rate helps you improve the ROI (Return on Investment)
  • It is much easier to find the profitable keywords
  • You can scale your budget
  • It can be the main source of acquiring profitable customers

Google AdWords works through two different network types- Search Network and Display Network (includes Gmail Ads)

Search Network– If you select this network, your ad appears in the Google SERPs (Search Engine Results Page). Ads containing the most relevant keywords to the search queries are eligible to appear in SERPs. Search Network is the most common in AdWords PPC advertising. You actually put texts ads in this network.

Google Display Network (GDN): GDN displays your ads across the numbers of partner websites including YouTube and Gmail outside of Google Search Engine. Your eligible ad will be appeared on millions of partner websites as Google AdSense. In this network you can put several ad formats – text ads, media ads and image ads.

Both networks work differently but each of them is driven by Keywords. We are focusing on search network here because as a beginner it will be easier for you. In this scenario, you must consult with the reputed digital marketing agencies like Wietingdesign.com in order to identify the CPC (Cost per Click) and CPA (Cost per Acquisition). Wietingdesign.com will guide you on how to structure the marketing prospect to generate qualified leads through AdWords.

For a startup business you should keep in mind these following points while using AdWords Search Network as a beginner-

  • Keep low the Daily Budget and CPC: As a beginner you will find it difficult to determine your AdWords budget. It is impossible to know how much traffic your ad will attract at the time of launching. You may spend hundreds of dollars but will get only few conversions. Therefore, you should lower the budget of daily ad spent because you are new in this field. At the very beginning you have to monitor the ad campaign’s performance to determine the future goal.
  • Calculate Return on Ad spent using CLV not CPC: The average CPC for the most successful Keywords will be high. You cannot identify actual ROI using this CPC at the beginning. So, correct way to determine your ROI is to calculate the Life time Value (CLV) of an acquired Customer. In this way you will find that the most successful Keyword is not as costly as you have thought.
  • Test and Track your ad performance: You will find that at the time of launching your AdWords Campaign, the CPAs are much higher than your expectation. At this point you must take help from a digital marketing agency to stop your hard earned money from being wasted. At the very beginning you must test several keywords, bidding strategies and campaign structures to meet your desired CPA goals.
  • Bidding and Optimization of your Text ads: Launching a campaign is not all. You have to optimize your campaign to bring your text ad on the very first page of Google SERP. Therefore, you need to bid high at starting to earn impressions. If your campaign fails to earn impressions your ad spent will be wasted. Your CPC bid rate must be high to make your ad appear in the first page. Optimize your ads periodically in order to track the most successful keywords combination and text ad structure.

It can take time for AdWords optimization to achieve the profitable marketing advantage that you need. Have patience when you are in initial stage of AdWords. If done correctly Google will boost your ad and you’ll meet your expectations in time. Just keep tracking your ad-campaign cautiously and keep them optimized.

The Use Of Stock Photography or Original Photography

July 2, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

Many companies decide to go with stock photos because they feel hiring a photographer is to expensive. When your building a business and putting dollars into a website, logos, and marketing promotions you have to cut somewhere, right?

But if you use stock photos in some cases you may not connect with the user in that personal way as most people can spot stock photography in an instant.  Using professional photography adds a personal touch to make that connection with the user.  Using stock photography has its place for sure but where can you use it and where should you not use it? Here’s some pros and cons when it comes to using stock photography and professional photographs.

Stock Photo Are Flawless

With stock photos you can select the perfect shot, they are beautiful, clear and crisp and these days you can buy great stock photography very inexpensively. With the right selection they will convey your message perfectly in some cases. Stock photos can work well if you use a mix of “professionally shot photography”  in and around your website and marketing materials. But, remember stock photos are identifiable because most likely they have been used before in other marketing promotions and can be a turn off to some potential clients. When you use your own photos you don’t have to worry about having the same photo somewhere else, and you own it.

Building Trust

If your developing a team page for your website, or if your building a website for a restaurant which will require galleries of various food shots, or if your an architect or a interior designer, you should invest in professional photography. These kinds of business’s demand original photography to showcase your personal work. Believe it or not we have seen many websites for builders and architects showcasing projects through stock shots and its very obvious sending a clear message that something is amiss.

So, in some cases one of the ways to build trust is to use your own personal shots to show your work, and get it done professionally.

As a full-service marketing company in Connecticut, we can guide you about the use of stock photography and professional photography throughout your website and other marketing promotions. Give us call at 203.414.9692 or send us an email.

SEO Competitor Analysis: Key to an Effective SEO Strategy

April 12, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

It is good to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. The saying goes true also for enhancing the efficacy of your website’s SEO strategy.

The most important aspect of determining your SEO strategy is to analyze how your competitors are performing. Researching and analyzing your competitors are the key aspects of designing a successful SEO strategy.

SEO makes base for your online marketing practices and you cannot afford to have a spurious SEO marketing strategy.

 Why Competitor Analysis is Important

If you do not know what your competitors are up to then how will you be able to beat them? The world of SEO is highly competitive and fast changing. Your SEO strategy needs to be analyzed at par with your competitors.

The prime aspects of analyzing your competitor’s SEO strategy are-

  • You can’t keep guessing about what your competitors are doing. It is important to identify the tactics adopted by them to attract customers.
  • Find out the areas where their strategy is performing well and try to adopt them without getting into any legal hassle.
  • Prepare a sound counter strategy based on data you receive and not on your speculations.

How to initiate SEO Competitor Analysis

  • Analyze where you stand- Before analyzing others, first, take a dig at where you are currently standing. Get accurate data of your website on following areas-
  1. How many visits you get per month
  2. True visit-to-enquiry conversion rate
  3. Visits you receive from non-branded organic search
  4. Keyword density and word count in each page of your website
  5. Quality and number of inbound links you receive
  • Find out your potential SEO competitors– Use your target keywords in search engine and the first 10 websites that come up are your competitors. You are competing with them as you are using same keywords. This is an important step when you have begun building your SEO marketing strategy from scratch.
  • Ascertain your Competitors- Now take up keyword research to validate the companies, who are competing in your space. You need to diligently follow the online activities of your competitors. Closely monitor their successes and failures. Find out the keywords, which are really getting good page rank.

Keyword analysis usually yields data like-

  1. average monthly search
  2. keyword competition
  3. CPC indicator
  4. URL competition.

Such analyses usually open up newer avenues to design SEO strategy in an effective way.

  • You can’t stop here- It is not over here rather, it is just the beginning. Values of SEO performance metrics do not remain constant. The factors that ensure your visibility and higher page rank keep changing. As the market behavior changes, remember, your potential customers are also changing the way they type a query. A new competitor can also pop-up any time. So, keep analyzing and keep boosting the metrics. Also, you need to keep measuring following metrics side-by-side-
  1. Your average visibility
  2. Average position
  3. Keyword distribution

Compare the performance of short-term metrics against long-term metrics. In addition, identify the pattern of how good or bad those metrics perform. It will help you in further refining your SEO strategy.

Conclusion

An effective and powerful SEO strategy comes out through intense human research along with the help of some useful SEO competitor analysis tools. You need to implement these analysis results in your regular workflow and measure their outcome religiously on a regular basis.

SEO or ADWORDS: Which One Should You Choose and Why?

March 30, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

The first step toward building digital presence of your company is creating a responsive website that caters the needs of your prospective clients. But what if your website name is not displayed in search engine results while a prospective client searches something relevant to what your company does!! A vital question pops-up here; is your website visible to the search engine? The answer and the solution of this problem is SEO or Search Engine Optimization.

What SEO Does

SEO is a holistic effort that helps your website to organically appear in top ranks of the SERPs or Search Engine Result Pages. Its prime targets are-

  • Making website more relevant to the possible customer search queries
  • Building popularity and authority of the website
  • Keeping the content relevant and up-to-date
  • Enhancing the website architecture so that it loads faster

The above mentioned practices of SEO yield result by-

  • Growing conversion rate
  • Increasing relevant traffic
  • Bypassing competitors
  • Building brand awareness and reputation
  • Streamlining other online marketing efforts like social media marketing, PPC etc.

What AdWords Does

AdWords is an extended global marketing platform, where you can promote your business products to get more clients and build brand awareness. AdWords is Google’s PPC or Pay-Per-Click service.

AdWords is the most popular PPC program that controls 90% of the search engine market. As Google holds lion’s share of the search engine market, advertising here is profitable as well as competitive too.

Here you can post your ads for free. Google charges you when someone clicks on your ads or you achieve conversion as per your preference. The term ‘conversion’ can be interpreted as sales, news-letter sign ups, app downloads, phone calls etc.

When a potential customer types a query that carries specific keywords relevant to your website or ad campaign, your ad appears at top of the organic SERPs. Ads will appear even when you are searching for similar products or services in the search engine.

 Where SEO and AdWords Differ

AdWords takes your marketing initiatives a step further from SEO. SEO relentlessly works on maintaining your web presence and increasing traffic volume. On the other hand, AdWords brings that audience toward your advertisement and increases its efficacy. Let’s elucidate how they differ-

  • SEO is nothing but a maintenance work which you must carry on in order to keep your website visible and understandable to the search engine. You can stop AdWords when you do not wish to continue it.
  • SEO takes time to produce visible results as multiple page-ranking factors work at different levels. It also takes considerable amount of time and money to synchronize those factors in right direction.
  • AdWords takes lesser time to produce result as it targets specific keywords and specific people. You can also use negative keywords to eliminate appearing your ads in wrong places.
  • AdWords allows your ads appearing on pre-set time slots that make it even more effective. It also good for seasonal businesses.
  • If done properly, AdWords works much faster than SEO in generating quality leads and conversion.
  • You can add Call to Action (CTO), call button and offers through AdWords, to lure potential customers.
  • AdWords allows you to launch multiple ad campaigns to attract customers from various directions.
  • SEO does not guarantee appearance of your website at the first page of the SERPs.
  • Like AdWords, organic search result is not paid but SEO needs long term investment to produce visible results.
  • As Google keeps changing its algorithm, if you stop doing SEO your website will start losing its visibility.
  • SEO takes time in pulling effective traffic to the website. Conversely, AdWords can start pulling traffic from the start of a campaign.

Why You Need Both SEO and AdWords

SEO is the prerequisite if you are looking forward to build a strong web presence and brand awareness. Alternatively, AdWords penetrates deeper and tries to build your brand reputation to the customers even to those, who are not aware of your company.

SEO continuously works towards building your website more accessible and user-friendly. It means, SEO to some extent, works constructing a good quality website that would satisfy the needs of a visitor redirected by the AdWords.

SEO builds reputation of a website by growing in-ward and out-ward links. It also finds competitive keywords to step aside your competitors. AdWords is ineffective if you fail to recognize the keywords that can work for your brand. Keyword research is integral part of both the practices. It is also effective if you are planning for social media marketing to narrow down your marketing efforts.

Conclusion

If SEO and AdWords work together, they can do wonders for your business. If you are a small business owner, you should start with SEO. You may advance toward AdWords when you have secured a strong customer base and have enough capital to invest in advertising. AdWords will help you if your target is spreading your brand awareness to a large number of people and increase customer base. Where, SEO will keep you floating in search engine.

Does Your Website Need Some Spring Cleaning?

March 4, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

It’s that time of year, when we start to think about spring cleaning. Cleaning out closets, reorganizing the basement and sweeping out the garage from all that sand accumulated during winter and detailing your car for those nice warm days ahead!

So what about your website?  It’s not a bad idea to take a close look at your website and make some upgrades. An outdated website can have a negative effect on a web visitor sending them to your competitor. You want to make a good and professional impression right?  So keeping your website up to date is important for your business.

We are not saying you need to necessarily redo your website, but why not spruce it up a bit? Here are some spring cleaning checklists for your website that you might want to consider that won’t impact your budget.

Photography

Adding and updating new photography to your website can do wonders. It will freshen things up and bring your site up to date especially if your site is a “visual” site like a interior designer, architect, or restaurant!  Showing your latest work or the latest chef specials will generate interest inviting your visitor to call you for more information.

Check Outbound Links

Go through all of your outbound links on your site. Besides making sure they work, ask yourself if you’re really offering your visitors value by sending them off to another website. Your website is where you want your audience to stay. Don’t send your traffic to another website they might not come back.

Social Media Links

A common mistake I see are social media buttons that doesn’t work. Make sure your social media is up to date and that they link correctly from your website.  Facebook is not the only platform for social media so if you think your business can benefit from Instagram or Pinterest set those up and take advantage of the many platforms that can benefit your business.

Blog

When is the last time you blogged? I see so many clients that are enthusiastic to start blogging in the beginning, but 4 years later they still have the very first and only blog they have written. If you not blogging, take it down. It will make your visitor think you don’t care or just don’t have the desire to put some effort into your business.

Copy Content

It’s always good to update your website copy–especially your website bio–once a year. This way you can keep your important details current. It’s also always helpful to get another pair of eyes on the content you’ve written for typos!  We all make grammar mistakes now and again, and it’s worthwhile to have a friend or colleague go over your copy and make some suggestions.

Double Check Your Contact Info

One of the biggest and easiest mistakes to make is to have outdated contact info on your website. You don’t want to miss out on important opportunities simply because nobody can get a hold of you. Check the phone numbers, email addresses, and contact forms on your website. Make sure they all go to the right place!

Why Is Website Development So Important?

February 25, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

Programming is the last stop in the development of your website.

The last thing you want to do is to pass a well thought out design you’ve worked hard on into the hands of a developer who doesn’t know what they are doing or will cut corners every step of the way.

Having had a lot of experience with developers I decided to write a post about some of the characteristics I look for in a developer before I bring them on to my team. Beyond knowing the programming languages necessary to do the job, there are certain requirements that are essential in hiring the right programmer.

  • Technology is always evolving and the programming skills a developer has today will likely be outdated in a couple of years. It’s important to find a programmer who has an interest in following the latest trends, and is interested in learning what the future will hold when it comes to the latest technology and the downfalls that could occur.  Using shortcuts does not work in any situation as it will come back to haunt you.
  • Implementing code to make a website function well is only part of a programmer’s job. When things don’t work as expected, a programmer is expected to get to the root of the problem quickly and effectively instead of spending hours blindly making changes and testing costing the client money and time.
  • A good programmer will always find ways to make something work. There is nothing worse then hearing “That can’t be done,” every time you ask for a change to be made on your website.  You also don’t want a developer who will take “shortcuts” to make the changes you’ve requested only to have the website stop working in the future because of those shortcuts.
  • Programming is a stressful profession and you absolutely need to respect that. When deadlines are tight and nothing seems to be working, the situation can become tense. You need a developer who can figure things out in a calm manner, a developer who will work with you to find the right solution.
  • Programmers generally are not expected to have a direct relationship with the client.  In my experience they just don’t want to get involved. They like staying behind the computer and doing there job. However, sometimes it is important for the programmer to occasionally participate in client meetings and explain how a system works to give the client a better understanding especially if their website is a complicated one.
  • Programmers don’t always get it right on the first try, but it’s important to find a programmer who is up for the challenge rather than giving up and implementing a solution that is only a bandaid that will cause problems later.

Working with a programmer that cares about his or her work is important as it will only lead to success.

If you are hiring a programmer on your own make sure they don’t use a lot of shortcuts that will come back to haunt you in the future. Don’t look for a programmer that is the cheapest around (YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR).  A good developer will cost you more but the payoff is a website that functions the way it is meant to.

Educate yourself on website development, the pitfalls of plugins, the platforms.  Get to know your developer before you start a project, ask for samples of work, ask about the challenges for a particular project, and do get references.

Good communication between you and your developer is a must.
