5 Changes that will make a difference in your business and your life!

January 5, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

About 60% of us admit that we make New Year’s resolutions, but only about 8% are successful in achieving them. Regardless of the outcome a year ago, the majority of us go right ahead and make a new set of resolutions–hoping for the best. This year we want to inspire you to see the next twelve months differently and find success and happiness in wherever your business is.

Here are 5 small changes that will make a difference in your business and your life to help you start the new year off right:

Don’t promise more than you can deliver – you want to deliver value to your clients, but if the desire is bigger than the possibility, you have to scale back. Desire vs. possibility. Weigh them. Stop, think. A lot of the time, desire is 10 and possibility is 2. If you’ve apologized for missed deadlines or not meeting expectations in 2017, examine how you can set realistic expectations this year.

Keep it simple silly – systems perform best when they have simple designs rather than complex ones. KISS is also an acronym for “keep it short and simple” and “keep it simple and straightforward”. Ask a friend to hear out your idea or plan for a new product, if they don’t understand the product or how to get to the end result, step back and simplify it.

Give more than you take – THIS is how you build personal and professional relationships. Share your knowledge, your connections, and help fellow businesses. You never know where life will take you, but 99% of people do not forget those that helped them along the way. It’s just about listening to what people want, and if you can make an introduction or a connection — or even a simple thank-you — doing it.

Put the social back in your social media – Cut through the clutter of all that content you just don’t care about and take a moment to get back to basics. Remember the sociology behind social media, and why this whole thing started — as a way to allow people to more easily keep in touch with those who matter. Build relationships and it will pave the way for your marketing goals.

Bring your “Why” back in to focus. Most of the time when people say they have no time, what they really mean is “I don’t see the value in that task”, that task makes them feel overwhelmed, or they don’t understand the task”. Why are you in the business you are in? Why did you want to become a business owner? If what you are doing now doesn’t make you happy or doesn’t make sense, change it. Share your goals with your team around you too so they understand the “Why” behind their actions too!

These 5 sayings do not belong to us, but are churned around the internet on motivational quote cards, pinterest boards, and social media. Our happiness and success rely on thinking constructive thoughts, acting with intent and creating strong relationships with others. Small changes made consistently over time can have a big impact on your life. Actions you can take starting today.

Happy New Year!

This honor served to endorse Matthew’s obsessive focus on details, in-depth market knowledge, honesty and client advocacy. He ensures every client is treated with attention, interest, and respect.

4 Reasons Why You Should Choose A Web Designer With SEO Knowledge.

October 4, 2016 by Cindy Wieting

4 Reasons Why You Should Choose A Web Designer With SEO Knowledge.

Why are you considering creating or updating your website? To help your target audience find you and choose your business to service their needs. Hours spent curating visuals and content will be wasted without traffic to see it. Hiring a web design company that’s experienced in SEO will clear the path for your customers to find you and help you convert traffic into sales.

Here are 4 reasons why you should choose a web designer with SEO knowledge:

  1. Mobile Friendly Web Design with SEO  – Industry trends are reporting 60% of all searches are performed from a mobile or tablet device. When designing a website, it’s important to consider the mobile user interface or you could be slashing your traffic in half. Don’t settle for a secondary simplified mobile site, choose a web designer that creates one stunning site, optimized for every platform.
  2. Quality Content Focus & User Engagement – Traffic is flowing to your site, what are you going to do with it? An SEO experienced web designer not only considers what looks good but anticipates on page SEO that creates a clear path for your audience to see who your are, what you do well, instill trust,  and encourage doing business with you.
  3. Image Optimization  – With platforms like Pinterest and Instagram gaining in popularity,  visuals are speaking volumes over lengthy text content. An SEO knowledgeable Web designer knows which tools and tactics to use to help users relate a viral image to your brand. If you’re creating visually stimulating pieces, you need to make sure you’re bringing users back to your website.
  4. Social Media Integration – User sharing is still King in marketing your brand. Are you making it easy to share your content with social share buttons? Is your content optimized when it’s shared, every blog has a featured image sized for social media?  The best Web designer with SEO knowledge anticipates this dilemma and ensures all your pages and content are optimized so your content is getting the eyes and recognition it deserves.

Web design and SEO are two entirely different beasts, so please do not assume every web designer is also an SEO expert. Wieting Design specializes in optimizing websites for SEO in Hartford & Fairfield County, CT because we know that the best website, is one that attracts website traffic and helps you convert visitors into lifetime customers. Not all companies are alike and not all web designers are created equally.

Give us a call at 203 414 9692 or email us we would love to help your business grow.

Website Trends for 2016

January 14, 2016 by Cindy Wieting

Trends 2016 ConceptI remember when we first started out designing websites 10 years ago they were boxy, fonts were limited, home pages were all about content and not appealing to the eye. Websites have come along way!  Website design is a lot like the fashion world, new trends, ideas, and new dos and don’ts largely dictated by developments in technology. As web platforms change websites change and now we are able to design some really beautiful sites while conveying the message!

Not a lot changed in the world of website design since last year and most new sites are being designed with a minimalist approach. But developments behind the scenes have been unbelievable and well received by designers. So how will the latest changes affect you and what can you expect if you are planning to build or revamp a website for your business?

CSS3

CSS3 modules can now be used in popular browsers. This means that layouts won’t look different on various browsers, and the underlying code will be more reliable and a lot simpler. A good thing if you choose to maintain your site on your own. So your website will look the same across all browsers such as Safari, Chrome, Firefox and IE.  What is CSS3: the latest evolution of the Cascading Style Sheets language and aims at extending CSS2.1. It brings a lot of long-awaited novelties, like rounded corners, shadows, gradients, transitions or animations, as well as new layouts like multi-columns, flexible box or grid layouts.

Videos

Web design is all about telling a story and conveying the right message. Great web design leaves no stone unturned in its bid to connect and interact with its users. Sending out the right message is what separates great web design from good ones.  And when it comes to conveying a message, nothing beats videos! More and more video content is being generated today, and modern internet users often prefer videos and images over plain text. So, incorporating a video background in your web design can actually go a long way to bringing your design to life.  Done right the video will tell the story about your business and keep your audience interested.

Hamburger Menus

It is becoming increasingly commonplace to view web content on mobile devices. Because of this trend, many web designers have started creating ‘hamburger’ menus, so navigation is hidden from view until expanded. It is cleaner, more aesthetically appealing site and there are some beautiful ways of handling the Hamburger menus.  But it isn’t right for all websites pending the kind of site it is. One negative is users might not discover all the content on your website, and for another, users are more likely to give up if navigation pathways are not in the forefront.

Big, Bold and Beautiful Fonts

Up to now, designers have mostly stuck with safe fonts in the web world. But with the great fonts and technology now available this has opened doors to use fonts like we never have before. There is nothing wrong with plain and boring if you are building a corporate website, but for everyone else, expect to see an explosion of large, colourful fonts in 2016, which should change the way we view text online. Big Headlines with beautiful “readable” fonts are here to stay. A nice example of this is Reynolds & Rowella which we launched last week.  The homepage sends out one clean message with a big clean font.  We are in the process of building a new site for for Ahl, Berrien & Partners, Consultants in Executive Search using his technique with clean bold fonts and will be launching soon

Scroll Sites

Long scrolling, single-page sites, and infinitely scrolling sites are becoming more and more common. Web design in general has been moving in this direction for awhile now, and the recent popularity of long scrolling is the decisive result of current functionality issues and user tastes.  Scroll sites are great for mobile devices, smaller screens and they tell a story about your product and or services very well. Long scrolling sites are incredibly adaptable, allowing modifications to include a wide range of attributes. They open a lot of new doors to designers. However, this style is not without its drawbacks. Consider your site’s goals, limitations, and overall structure before moving ahead.  A good example is PalmersDarien.com which we launched and designed a few months ago.

3 Website Design Mistakes That Could Harm Your Brand Image

July 10, 2014 by Cindy Wieting

design

Whether you are in the process of having a website built or thinking about having an existing website re-designed. There are plenty of web design mistakes you will want to avoid. The following are three common mistakes that could ruin your company’s brand image.

 1. Inconsistent Corporate Identity

What does Amazon.com, Louis Vuitton and many other popular brands have in common? They are all consistent.  When your brand is consistent, it becomes more memorable in the mind of your customer. Regardless of whether you own a large corporation or small business, your brand should be consistent. Your website, logo design, online and offline advertisements, and print collateral should mirror each other. A company with an inconsistent brand will have a difficult time competing in the marketplace.

 2. Failure to Hire a Professional Web Designer

There are so many options available to business owners today that there is really no excuse not to have a website.  Unfortunately, not every option is the right choice. It can be tempting to hire an inexperienced freelance web designer that offers the best price in town or the web hosting company that offers DIY website builders (with free templates) at a low price. Both options may sound good on paper, but in reality, it will cost you in the long run. It can cost you more money to fix someone’s mistakes or cost you potential business.

A professional web designer will not just build an attractive looking website, he or she will build a website that is marketable and user-friendly.  A visitor is more likely to remain on a website if it is a breeze to navigate, visually appealing and offers something of value.  A professional web designer will not just take the latest trends into consideration when designing a website, he or she will take your target audience into consideration. The purpose of having a website is to have visitors land on your page and make an informed decision (i.e. buy, call, email, sign-up, register, etc.).  It’s a lot easier to accomplish your goals when your web design project is in the right hands.

 3. No Clear Call-to-Action

Many business owners struggle with this particular one. The scenario usually starts off the same. They have a well-designed website, a great product to offer and traffic. However, no one is buying.  If you don’t have a clear call-to-action, your visitors will not know what to do next. Your call-to-action should be obvious from the time a person lands on your web page.

Another mistake that many people make is providing too many options. When you provide people with too many choices – it causes confusion.  Having a clear and concise call-to-action will increase conversion ratings and even increase returning customers.

Hopefully, the above tips will help you avoid the three common mistakes that could potentially harm your brand.
