Beginners Guide to Google AdWords for a Startup Business

August 13, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

Beginners Guide to Google AdWords for a Startup Business

A startup company should opt for online marketing windows. Digital marketing can be a serious source of growth for your startup. Good customer acquisition ability can help grow your startup business. Google AdWords is a great customer acquisition tool for online marketing platforms. Add AdWords today to your digital marketing and give your startup business the exposure it deserves.

How AdWords can help your business-

  • It starts generating traffic right away
  • You can easily track your conversion rate
  • Easy to track conversion rate helps you improve the ROI (Return on Investment)
  • It is much easier to find the profitable keywords
  • You can scale your budget
  • It can be the main source of acquiring profitable customers

Google AdWords works through two different network types- Search Network and Display Network (includes Gmail Ads)

Search Network– If you select this network, your ad appears in the Google SERPs (Search Engine Results Page). Ads containing the most relevant keywords to the search queries are eligible to appear in SERPs. Search Network is the most common in AdWords PPC advertising. You actually put texts ads in this network.

Google Display Network (GDN): GDN displays your ads across the numbers of partner websites including YouTube and Gmail outside of Google Search Engine. Your eligible ad will be appeared on millions of partner websites as Google AdSense. In this network you can put several ad formats – text ads, media ads and image ads.

Both networks work differently but each of them is driven by Keywords. We are focusing on search network here because as a beginner it will be easier for you. In this scenario, you must consult with the reputed digital marketing agencies like Wietingdesign.com in order to identify the CPC (Cost per Click) and CPA (Cost per Acquisition). Wietingdesign.com will guide you on how to structure the marketing prospect to generate qualified leads through AdWords.

For a startup business you should keep in mind these following points while using AdWords Search Network as a beginner-

  • Keep low the Daily Budget and CPC: As a beginner you will find it difficult to determine your AdWords budget. It is impossible to know how much traffic your ad will attract at the time of launching. You may spend hundreds of dollars but will get only few conversions. Therefore, you should lower the budget of daily ad spent because you are new in this field. At the very beginning you have to monitor the ad campaign’s performance to determine the future goal.
  • Calculate Return on Ad spent using CLV not CPC: The average CPC for the most successful Keywords will be high. You cannot identify actual ROI using this CPC at the beginning. So, correct way to determine your ROI is to calculate the Life time Value (CLV) of an acquired Customer. In this way you will find that the most successful Keyword is not as costly as you have thought.
  • Test and Track your ad performance: You will find that at the time of launching your AdWords Campaign, the CPAs are much higher than your expectation. At this point you must take help from a digital marketing agency to stop your hard earned money from being wasted. At the very beginning you must test several keywords, bidding strategies and campaign structures to meet your desired CPA goals.
  • Bidding and Optimization of your Text ads: Launching a campaign is not all. You have to optimize your campaign to bring your text ad on the very first page of Google SERP. Therefore, you need to bid high at starting to earn impressions. If your campaign fails to earn impressions your ad spent will be wasted. Your CPC bid rate must be high to make your ad appear in the first page. Optimize your ads periodically in order to track the most successful keywords combination and text ad structure.

It can take time for AdWords optimization to achieve the profitable marketing advantage that you need. Have patience when you are in initial stage of AdWords. If done correctly Google will boost your ad and you’ll meet your expectations in time. Just keep tracking your ad-campaign cautiously and keep them optimized.

Things To Consider After Your Website Launches

July 18, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

Your website is ready to launch after a lot of work, money and time.  The hard work of the designers, developers, marketing team and you (the client) have paid off. You have a good solid product to help grow your business. But how do you get the word out? Talking about it to friends is not enough, they already know you.  Your goal is get people who don’t know you or your services to pay attention, to know what your offering and how YOU can help them.

You can’t just launch a website and expect it to act as your sales tool without some help. Launching your website and doing nothing is the best way to undo all the hard work of designing and developing not to mention the dollars you have put in to it.  Here are some suggestions that you should consider during the launch of your new website to get your new site ranking and clients calling!

Search Engine Optimization – (SEO)

It is impractical to expect people to know what your website address is directly. When someone is looking for a service they are going to type in that service and town. For example: if someone is looking for a interior designer they will most likely put in interior design Westport, CT or kitchen redesign Westport, CT

All major search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo have primary search results, where web pages and other content such as videos or local listings are shown and ranked based on what the search engine considers most relevant to users.

If your site fails to rank well in search engines then you are running backwards from success. A great looking website has nothing to do with generating leads. Engaging content, working keywords, a practical ‘call to action’ along with other strategical approaches to SEO will set up the foundation for your website to rank well, thus getting clicks on your website which leads to inquiries about your products or services.

Hiring a good SEO company is just as important if not more important then hiring a good designer to design and develop your website.  Good SEO implementation will help sales grow. Check out our SEO services and see how we might be able to help you. We offer a variety of search engine optimization packages. We realize all companies are not alike and require different needs based on budgets, the type of website, and targeted locations.

Utilize Social Media

It’s no surprise that social media marketing is crucial to business growth.  After all, we’re living in a digital world.  Every business should be allocating time, energy and resources toward social media marketing.

Depending on the kind of company you have and what you have to offer, you need to decide which Social Media platforms will fit your company.  We always say pick at least three and keep it up and keep it strong.

When your ready to launch make sure you are ready with your social media.  Brand it to be consistent with your website graphics and content. Keep posting engaging content periodically for those people, who have a real interest in your products and services. Provide news, latest updates and other information to the user for building awareness. Don’t crave for instant success it takes patience.

Whether you decide to blog, use Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest just keep it going, the last thing you want a potential client to see is a blog post from a year ago it shows signs of disinterest in your business.

For more information on our Social Media services, please contact Wieting Design to see if we can help.

E-mail Marketing

Email marketing is a form of direct marketing that uses electronic mail as a means of communicating messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing. But with all the “junk” emails we get on a daily basis, be selective of what and who you send them to. Send emails with a purpose!

So why and how should one go about email marketing? Well here are a few thoughts on the matter:

  • Cost – Email marketing is CHEAP, there are no two ways about it. Whether you do it yourself, or through an email marketing agency, marketing to hundreds of consumers via email is not going to cost you alot compared to other channels of advertising.
  • Success – Emails can be targeting specifically to the ideal consumer. With this concept in mind, along with email cost-effectiveness, it’s no wonder that email marketing’s ROI often blows other direct marketing strategies out of the water .
  • Measureability and Flexibility – With the analytics available today it’s easy to track responses to your emails exactly, in order to work out what parts of your campaign are working and what parts aren’t. With this knowledge, you can then react instantly to modify your campaign strategy if need be.

Send emails to spread announcements as it is a powerful way to keep a good relationship with the existing customers. Please contact us if you have some questions, we would be happy to help you!

AdWords (Pay-Per-Click (PPC) campaigns

SEO demands good content to work, but if you have a website that is visually driven you may want to consider an AdWords campaign. An AdWords campaign is an ad campaign within an AdWords account. An AdWords campaign is usually composed of several ad groups. Each ad group serves different ad texts based on the type of keyword a user may type into Google’s search engine to find what your offering. Google AdWords pay-per-click (PPC) is the most effective way to immediately establish your company’s online presence with a new client that is interested in what you have to offer!

If you would like more information on AdWords we would be happy to talk with you give us a call at 203 414 9692 or email us!

SEO Basics: How SEO Can Be Helpful For Small Businesses

March 22, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a multilayered practice to enhance volume of quality traffic to your website. It is the first step toward digital marketing.

An SEO integrated online marketing strategy brings clarity and precision to your marketing efforts.

SEO has multiple variables which act at different layers together to bring out visible result. Basically, it tries to make your website appear in the first page of organic search results by increasing your page rank.

Many small business owners use SEO to achieve higher page rank in organic search results and avoid spending huge money on advertising.

What SEO Is All About

Well, SEO is not rocket science but it is not that uncomplicated either. I will try to make it less uncomplicated for you.

When we type anything in any search engine it replies us with numerous SERPs (search engine result pages). Websites appear one after another according to the level of their relevancy to the query typed in the search box. The website which appears at top of the organic search results gains the highest page rank. Organic search result is unpaid and comes after advertisements.

Improved page rank ensures enhanced traffic volume but are you actually getting the right kind of traffic? Are those visitors really interested in your product? Has search engine successfully identified you as who you are and what actually you sale?

It may happen that you sale red shoes but buyers who are searching for red dress or red bags often end up clicking on your website. The point of fact is you are not getting quality traffic. Only people who are searching for red shoes are your quality traffic.

When quality traffic clicks through your website it results in conversion (sales).

SEO is an all encompassing approach that tries to increases your website’s relevancy, usefulness, architecture and authority through improving and adjusting certain variables.

Which Search Engine Should I Zero On?

As we all know, Google is the most popular search engine in the world. According to the latest statistics of www.netmarketshare.com , it holds 74.06% of the market share. So, concentrating on Google would be enough for you. Microsoft’s Bing is the third most used search engine after Chinese search engine Baidu. Yahoo comes at the fourth place.

How Search Engines Work

Before indulging in how search engine optimization happens, you need to know how search engines create SERPs.

  • When someone types a query in the search box, automated robots, called ‘crawlers’, start finding out billions of relevant documents in the entire web. Bing’s crawler is called ‘Bingbot’.
  • Across the globe, search engines maintain various data centers, which store massive amount of data. These data storages help crawlers to bring information to search engine and create a web page index.
  • Using mathematical equations or algorithm search engines find out useful web pages in terms of their relevancy and popularity. According to algorithm the best pages with highest page rank appear in the first page.

Every search engine has its own algorithm that works differently from the others. Algorithms work on certain variables to determine page rank. These variables are called ‘rank factors’. Rank factors influence visibility of the web page.

If you are a small business owner, do not get agonized about those 200 odd rank factors, rather, you must know the fundamental factors of search engine optimization.

Building A SEO-friendly Website

Pillars of any SEO campaign-

  1. Relevancy– Relevancy is the key. Relevancy of any site can only be built through relevant and useful content; it must cater the need of your target audience.
  2. Popularity – There is no dearth of relevant pages in internet but search engines prefer websites, which have previously satisfied visitor’s requirement. Popular websites have following qualities-
  • Ability of attracting higher rate of visitors
  • The contents make the visitors spend considerable length of time on the pages and site
  • Ability to make the visitors pay repeat visit
  1. Authority- Authority of a website gets established when it-
  • Carries relatively huge number of incoming links
  • Gets mentioned in social media and important and influential websites (Government, education institutes, news organizations, industry websites etc.).
  1. Architecture- An SEO-friendly website is user-friendly, robust and fast for making a strong web presence. The content should be of high quality and must adhere to the demand of the potential buyers.

Why Should Small Businesses Think About SEO?

For small businesses, SEO is a less expensive alternative for building brand awareness among potential customers. Every small business goes through different hurdles, biggest among them are building trust and reputation. SEO can ease that a little for you .When your brand appears in the first page of reputed search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo, people tend to start having trust in your brand. SEO can do the following things for your business-

  1. Drawing more customers
  2. Establishing brand awareness
  3. Beating competitors
  4. Increasing conversion rate
  5. Channelizing traffic for other online marketing campaigns

Basic SEO Factors For Small Businesses

For small businesses, required SEO is less complicated. SEO is done on three levels- i) On- site SEO, ii) Of-site, SEO iii) SEO and Negative SEO. Each part has its own set of variables.

ON-Site Optimization

  • Content Is The King- Any online marketing practice is incomplete without high quality content. If your content is relevant then search engines won’t recognize it. On the other hand, only a useful content is linkable and would generate repeat visitors.
  • Keyword Selection- Your keywords should be relevant to the words that the potential buyers are typing in the search box. If budget is constrained then keywords do not have to be very competitive for small businesses. The first 10 websites in the organic search result are your competitors.
  • Page Titles Should Be Relevant- Each page should have unique titles along with relevant keywords. The length of the title must be under 70 characters.
  • Meta Description- A 156 characters long meta description comprises of relevant keywords along with alluring calls to action. You can also add phone numbers or promotional offers.
  • Header Tags- If possible use <h1>, <h2>, <h3> header tags. These tags must have strategic and meaningful keywords in them.
  • URL- Your URL should be short and crisp containing rich keywords. Keywords always have to be relevant to the content and strategically placed. Avoid using symbols and numbers in page titles.
  • Easy To Crawl Website- In an easy-to-crawl website, search engine crawler or spider crawls easily. Crawler has to recognize on-site variables for further indexing.
  • Speed- Unless your website loads fast, the search engine won’t recognize it as user-friendly.

 Off-Page Optimization

  • Social Media- Do your website link appears in social media channels? When your website gets referred in social media and gets shared by popular individuals or organizations, they strengthen your reputation. Search engines will not ignore your website if you have strong reputation and popularity.
  • Backlinking- When reputed, trustworthy and high quality websites mention your website link, it reflects that you are getting good backlinks. Organic backlinking benefits both parties but reciprocal backlinking doesn’t. Backlinking is more beneficial when it comes from different types of quality websites.

At the initial stage, you can ask your family, friends, customers and suppliers to link your website to their social media platforms or in their own websites. You can also ask relevant bloggers to link.

  • Trust Issues- Your website appears trustworthy to the search engines when visitors pay you repeat visits and spend a good length of time.
  • Optimization of Anchor Text- The visible hyperlinked clickable text is anchor text. Branded and relevant anchor text easily catches the attention of the search engines. It is important that relevant anchor texts should appear naturally in your website.

Negative SEO

Negative SEO is an unethical practice where someone deliberately tries to drag down your page ranking. It is mostly done by off-page SEO, for example- building unnatural links or spam links, scraping content and hacking. However, there are controversies regarding its efficacy.

Conclusion

SEO does not reflect the result instantaneously to your page rank position but slowly with the rise of number of visitors, your rank will improve.

SEO does not bear fruit over night. The secret behind a successful SEO campaign is proper knowledge, well conceived strategy, considerable amount of time and money.

Does Your Website Need Some Spring Cleaning?

March 4, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

It’s that time of year, when we start to think about spring cleaning. Cleaning out closets, reorganizing the basement and sweeping out the garage from all that sand accumulated during winter and detailing your car for those nice warm days ahead!

So what about your website?  It’s not a bad idea to take a close look at your website and make some upgrades. An outdated website can have a negative effect on a web visitor sending them to your competitor. You want to make a good and professional impression right?  So keeping your website up to date is important for your business.

We are not saying you need to necessarily redo your website, but why not spruce it up a bit? Here are some spring cleaning checklists for your website that you might want to consider that won’t impact your budget.

Photography

Adding and updating new photography to your website can do wonders. It will freshen things up and bring your site up to date especially if your site is a “visual” site like a interior designer, architect, or restaurant!  Showing your latest work or the latest chef specials will generate interest inviting your visitor to call you for more information.

Check Outbound Links

Go through all of your outbound links on your site. Besides making sure they work, ask yourself if you’re really offering your visitors value by sending them off to another website. Your website is where you want your audience to stay. Don’t send your traffic to another website they might not come back.

Social Media Links

A common mistake I see are social media buttons that doesn’t work. Make sure your social media is up to date and that they link correctly from your website.  Facebook is not the only platform for social media so if you think your business can benefit from Instagram or Pinterest set those up and take advantage of the many platforms that can benefit your business.

Blog

When is the last time you blogged? I see so many clients that are enthusiastic to start blogging in the beginning, but 4 years later they still have the very first and only blog they have written. If you not blogging, take it down. It will make your visitor think you don’t care or just don’t have the desire to put some effort into your business.

Copy Content

It’s always good to update your website copy–especially your website bio–once a year. This way you can keep your important details current. It’s also always helpful to get another pair of eyes on the content you’ve written for typos!  We all make grammar mistakes now and again, and it’s worthwhile to have a friend or colleague go over your copy and make some suggestions.

Double Check Your Contact Info

One of the biggest and easiest mistakes to make is to have outdated contact info on your website. You don’t want to miss out on important opportunities simply because nobody can get a hold of you. Check the phone numbers, email addresses, and contact forms on your website. Make sure they all go to the right place!

5 Changes that will make a difference in your business and your life!

January 5, 2018 by Cindy Wieting

About 60% of us admit that we make New Year’s resolutions, but only about 8% are successful in achieving them. Regardless of the outcome a year ago, the majority of us go right ahead and make a new set of resolutions–hoping for the best. This year we want to inspire you to see the next twelve months differently and find success and happiness in wherever your business is.

Here are 5 small changes that will make a difference in your business and your life to help you start the new year off right:

Don’t promise more than you can deliver – you want to deliver value to your clients, but if the desire is bigger than the possibility, you have to scale back. Desire vs. possibility. Weigh them. Stop, think. A lot of the time, desire is 10 and possibility is 2. If you’ve apologized for missed deadlines or not meeting expectations in 2017, examine how you can set realistic expectations this year.

Keep it simple silly – systems perform best when they have simple designs rather than complex ones. KISS is also an acronym for “keep it short and simple” and “keep it simple and straightforward”. Ask a friend to hear out your idea or plan for a new product, if they don’t understand the product or how to get to the end result, step back and simplify it.

Give more than you take – THIS is how you build personal and professional relationships. Share your knowledge, your connections, and help fellow businesses. You never know where life will take you, but 99% of people do not forget those that helped them along the way. It’s just about listening to what people want, and if you can make an introduction or a connection — or even a simple thank-you — doing it.

Put the social back in your social media – Cut through the clutter of all that content you just don’t care about and take a moment to get back to basics. Remember the sociology behind social media, and why this whole thing started — as a way to allow people to more easily keep in touch with those who matter. Build relationships and it will pave the way for your marketing goals.

Bring your “Why” back in to focus. Most of the time when people say they have no time, what they really mean is “I don’t see the value in that task”, that task makes them feel overwhelmed, or they don’t understand the task”. Why are you in the business you are in? Why did you want to become a business owner? If what you are doing now doesn’t make you happy or doesn’t make sense, change it. Share your goals with your team around you too so they understand the “Why” behind their actions too!

These 5 sayings do not belong to us, but are churned around the internet on motivational quote cards, pinterest boards, and social media. Our happiness and success rely on thinking constructive thoughts, acting with intent and creating strong relationships with others. Small changes made consistently over time can have a big impact on your life. Actions you can take starting today.

Happy New Year!
