When competition is fierce, branding and graphic design make you stand out

August 13, 2020 by Cindy Wieting

Many industries and product verticals have immense competition. And while there are many ways you can choose to position your company to differentiate yourself from your competition, your level of professionalism and brand attractiveness could have an impact.

Branding and graphic design are crucial aspects of your business that you can’t ignore especially when the competition is fierce. Some companies think they can just outspend their opponent in ad dollars. And while that might be true, if your visual identity and ads lack professional graphic design, consumers might still choose your competitors.

Here are numerous ways that logo design and graphic design impact your business and help strengthen the bond between your business and your customers.

Effective design increases client awareness

Your logo design and graphic design need to be memorable. Effective design helps solidify your brand in consumers’ minds so you can build upon past experiences with a customer to increase their awareness for all that you offer.

A disjointed brand experience can make it difficult for your consumers to connect the dots on what you do and what you offer. For example, if your Instagram graphics and ad materials look different from your search network ads and website, it will be difficult for consumers to connect your messages.

The goal of advertising is to progressively tell your consumer more about what you offer to compel them to make a purchase with you or take the next step in your sales funnel. So if your consumers can’t make those connections between one ad or brand experience to the next, your online efforts won’t be effective.

Building trust and credibility through your brand promise

Once your brand is consistent across all customer interactions, you can begin weaving in your brand promise. When a consumer sees your brand, they can connect it to what you offer your customers as far as service and commitment. Your brand promise might include:

  1. An outstanding customer experience. Once a customer has a positive experience purchasing from or interacting with your brand, they might associate your brand with outstanding customer service, making them more likely to return. But for that to happen, your brand needs to be consistent. The website they made the purchase from needs to look like the email marketing you start sending them after a purchase, and graphic design can make that possible.
  2. The same service in-store as online. If your business operates under a hybrid model of both in-store and online, consider how to create a consistent experience. If you’re committed to offering expertise and insights to your customers, bring that experience online through helpful messaging and the opportunity to initiate an online chat with questions. Ask your website designer how to integrate this functionality into your website seamlessly.
  3. Your social media persona and tone. Who your brand is on social media is so important to the trust and credibility your consumers consider you to have. One of the challenges with social media is that it’s an easy place for consumers to go to share their dissatisfaction or challenges with your brand. And it’s all public. How you respond could impact whether or not your other followers choose to purchase from you. Set that tone with friendly and approachable graphic design that matches your overall branding.
  4. Responding to feedback. Brands that share their reviews and customer feedback online can help build trust with their customers. Online reviews are an important aspect of any business because they provide context and information to individuals who have never purchased from you before. As you create your online persona, you also need to showcase that you respond to customer feedback, even when it isn’t positive. Graphic design can highlight your brand’s evolution and how well you build trust with your consumers by responding to what they have to say.

Design can use psychology to influence consumers

Color psychology in graphic design and marketing is fascinating. Every color the eye can perceive evokes a different emotion and good graphic designers know that. Logo designers will recommend certain colors based on your business and what you do. This includes secondary and tertiary colors that can weave into your other design elements to encourage certain actions from consumers.

For example, yellow is the friendliest color on the color palette. And yet, it can be challenging to design a website with tons of yellow because those with vision impairments might not see yellow well. Incorporating yellow in the right places can still evoke the right emotions but help the eye perceive your website or other brand elements effectively.

How a graphic designer applies your brand colors can encourage different actions or different thoughts within your consumers. So while your primary color might be yellow because it’s friendly, you might bring out more blue in your designs when discussing your philanthropic activity because blue builds trust.

Graphic design templates are not a one-size fits all, so while there are many DIY templates and programs on the market now, nothing beats a professional designer who has studied these concepts and knows how to use psychology to showcase your brand effectively.

Inspires your employees so you attract and retain top talent

When competition is fierce, one risk you face is losing your best employees to the competition. Employees find it easier to go to work for brands that they believe in and they can get behind. So not only is it important that your branding be consistent for your consumers but your employees too.

Hiring top talent means being the top business to work for. How cool your brand is can affect how easy it is to recruit these rising stars to help you build your business and beat your competitors. Give your employees something to get behind with logo design and graphic design that speak to them.

Businesses looking to stand out from the crowd and connect with their customers through logo design and graphic design should contact Wieting Design. We’ll help you build a brand that speaks to who you are and what you do while building trust and goodwill with your consumers.

Business Card Design. How Important Is It?

October 14, 2017 by Cindy Wieting

Why use business cards in this digital age when it seems that everyone has a digital device in their hands? Is the traditional business card old-fashioned? NO!

Despite its small size, a business card is critical. It’s the first impression most people see of your business. A business card is one of the most important marketing pieces that you’ll develop for your company, since it is typically the first piece of your marketing materials that a new client will see. You hand them out at meetings, networking functions, and social gatherings. How many times do you meet someone at an airport and hand out business card, right?

An attractive, well thought out business card with all the relevant contact information can capture the attention of your potential customer and help your business remain in his/her mind well after your initial meeting. Business cards enhance credibility, professionalism and legitimacy for your business. DON’T SKIMP ON YOUR BUSINESS CARD DESIGN OR THE PRODUCTION OF IT.

Here are our recommendations about business card design and production:

  1. Go with a 2 sided card – one side can be dedicated to your logo/business name while the other side will have all of your contact information. It’s a cleaner look.
  2. Include your website URL, business e-mail address, your name, title and all contact information.
  3. Make sure the color scheme is consistent with your website design, and all of your other marketing materials. Consistency is key.
  4. Make sure the fonts are large enough for a quick read. You don’t want your potential client squinting to read your information.
  5. Avoid plastic business cards, avoid glossy backgrounds. People sometimes like to take notes on a business card.
  6. Use a nice thick stock, we advise no less then a 120# stock. A nice thick stock says “that you care about your card, and you didn’t cheap out”.
  7. Get a color proof before you print. It will show you exactly how the colors will look in actual (final) printing. Color proofs are submitted before the press proof, and provide the chance to make alterations or to correct mistakes. The last thing you want is to print tons of cards only to find a mistake.
  8. Printing is the last stop, so make sure the printer you hire is a quality printer and can answer your questions, and solve problems.

Business Cards Are Still Necessary

Even in this digital age, they’re still one of the best ways to remind people about your business.

5 Reasons Why You Need A Graphic Designer

September 25, 2017 by Cindy Wieting

Double entendres, sexual innuendo, losses in translation and sign malfunctions. Design has it all. An experienced designer can prevent you from making regrettable design choices like the ones on this list. If you don’t want to end up costing yourself more time, money, and customers then see why a hiring a designer is necessary for your business.

Good graphic designers will know the best approaches to communicate your products and services to your customers. They will know what your competition does and will take your preferences into mind and then come up with a number of creative solutions to get your message across.

An Expert Graphic Designer will….

Save You Time – If you’re busy running a business chances are you simply don’t have the time to make a your own graphic design, logo, or website. Good design is not something you stumble upon. It’s a combination of skills that require a specialist education and a lot of practice. It can take year of dedication to master the software needed to complete all your graphic design work to a professional level.

Save You Money – When businesses don’t take graphic design seriously in the beginning, they will more than likely go through a design overhaul eventually—in some cases, more than once. However, quality design has longevity. A graphic designer will also know the most cost effective ways to design branding materials and keep your costs to a minimum.

Help Differentiate You From Your Competition – Professional designers are experienced at thinking differently. They can see the “big picture” that most people cannot. They are able to think outside the box and offer you another perspective on your vision, one that you may not have considered. A professional graphic designer has many resources to call upon when it comes time to show off your brand: they’re skilled at pushing the boundaries to help you create the impressive website your business deserves.

Convert Traffic Into Sales – Plain and simple, good design converts. A smartly designed website can direct visitors to take action, like clicking a “buy” button for instance. A well-crafted pamphlet compels readers to keep turning pages. Professional graphic design has the potential to deliver measurable results for a small business.

Help You To Avoid Design Disasters – We are only human after all, but a second set of experienced eyes is critical in every aspect of your business and graphic design is no exception. We’ve given you a few examples to 1) make you smile and 2) give you examples of designs that could have used another set of experienced eyes.

People do not want to WORK to understand the message of your business. A professional designer will work with your vision and content to map out a clear story that viewers want to read. Details such as the choice of font, spacing between letters, and the length of paragraphs are important elements that establish readability in your branding. Clear calls to action and other details may not seem important, and most times are overlooked by the potential customer, but they are critical components in building your brand identity and growing your business.

Wieting Design | Graphic Design Fairfield County CT

Within 5 seconds your website must compel visitors to read on. If not, your visitor moves on—most likely to visit your competitor’s site. The design of your website—it’s attractiveness, ease of use, and opening content—determines whether visitors read on or move on. At Wieting Design we specialize in crafting unique website designs that will have your visitors engaged on every page (or one page) and will work as an information and “sales” tool for site visitors giving them an immediate high-level of confidence about who you are and what you’re offering.
