It’s that time of year, when we start to think about spring cleaning. Cleaning out closets, reorganizing the basement and sweeping out the garage from all that sand accumulated during winter and detailing your car for those nice warm days ahead!
So what about your website? It’s not a bad idea to take a close look at your website and make some upgrades. An outdated website can have a negative effect on a web visitor sending them to your competitor. You want to make a good and professional impression right? So keeping your website up to date is important for your business.
We are not saying you need to necessarily redo your website, but why not spruce it up a bit? Here are some spring cleaning checklists for your website that you might want to consider that won’t impact your budget.
Photography
Adding and updating new photography to your website can do wonders. It will freshen things up and bring your site up to date especially if your site is a “visual” site like a interior designer, architect, or restaurant! Showing your latest work or the latest chef specials will generate interest inviting your visitor to call you for more information.
Check Outbound Links
Go through all of your outbound links on your site. Besides making sure they work, ask yourself if you’re really offering your visitors value by sending them off to another website. Your website is where you want your audience to stay. Don’t send your traffic to another website they might not come back.
Social Media Links
A common mistake I see are social media buttons that doesn’t work. Make sure your social media is up to date and that they link correctly from your website. Facebook is not the only platform for social media so if you think your business can benefit from Instagram or Pinterest set those up and take advantage of the many platforms that can benefit your business.
Blog
When is the last time you blogged? I see so many clients that are enthusiastic to start blogging in the beginning, but 4 years later they still have the very first and only blog they have written. If you not blogging, take it down. It will make your visitor think you don’t care or just don’t have the desire to put some effort into your business.
Copy Content
It’s always good to update your website copy–especially your website bio–once a year. This way you can keep your important details current. It’s also always helpful to get another pair of eyes on the content you’ve written for typos! We all make grammar mistakes now and again, and it’s worthwhile to have a friend or colleague go over your copy and make some suggestions.
Double Check Your Contact Info
One of the biggest and easiest mistakes to make is to have outdated contact info on your website. You don’t want to miss out on important opportunities simply because nobody can get a hold of you. Check the phone numbers, email addresses, and contact forms on your website. Make sure they all go to the right place!
