Summer is a tricky season; for some businesses it’s the busiest time of year, but for most small businesses, summer often means things in the office slow down. Clients and customers are on vacation and new projects are on hold. VACATIONS ARE JUST MORE IMPORTANT SOMETIMES!
This downtime doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. Savvy business owners know they can use the time to update their marketing, website design, branding, technology or skills and anything else that can drive their business forward when the rush is on. Below are some suggestions for ways you can make the most out of these slow summer months.
Take A Good Hard Look At Your Website
If you don’t have shots of your team…take some! Tired of the same old photography? Freshen up your site with new product shots, or portfolio imagery. Is your website mobile responsive? If not it should be. Take a look at your content, is it up to date? Can a potential customer find you if they go to Google and put in a service you offer? If not maybe its time to think about SEO.
Add New Call To Actions
Summer is a great time to identify new ways to promote your products and services. Do you have a summer special or new freemium for your customers? Make sure you’re updating your call to actions to lead your website traffic to the next step in the buy cycle.
Create A Freemium Offer
What’s a freemium? It’s a high value item your customers want from you that you are giving away in exchange for their email address. A freemium can be anything from a coupon for your store, a checklist that relates to your business, or a free check-up or review. This is a great way to build your email list so you can market to them in the future.
Update Your Content
If you’re still advertising a winter special, or a function from last fall, it’s hurting your business and your reputation. A visitor may think business is slow for you, or you’ve abandoned your website. If you haven’t updated your content since you built your site a year ago… or even in the last 3 months.. it’s time!
If you don’t have links to your social networks… time to add them. There are many plugins for Word Press and other platforms that can be easily integrated. Not only will they liven up your website with some color…most important they will enable your visitors to connect with you via other platforms you are using.
Add New Testimonials
This step can tie in to your social network links, but your visitors want to hear what others have to say about you. Did you receive great feedback from a customer? Ask them to post a review online and then hyperlink the testimonial to the original review. It’s one thing to add a bunch of testimonials, but to really take this up a notch make sure your website visitors can validate your testimonials and see they come from real people just like them.
Regardless if you are a small business, or a multinational company, blogging is integral to your online content marketing strategy. Write up some blogs while things are slow to keep on hand for when things get busy and you don’t have time write one.
Summer is a great time to relax and recharge your batteries, but it signifies the midpoint of the year. Are you on track to hit your business goals and reach your customers?
